In addition to fiber loosening, rubbing, and pressing, beating mainly causes displacement and deformation of the cell wall, breaking of the outer layer of the primary wall and secondary wall, swelling, fibrillation, and transverse cutting.
2. After beating, the fiber becomes soft and plastic, the specific surface area increases, and a large number of hydroxyl groups are freed from the surface.
When the water evaporates, the hydroxyl groups between adjacent fibers form hydrogen bonds to bond with each other, which is the main reason for the increase in paper strength.
Beating can increase the binding force between fibers, which can increase the tensile strength, bursting resistance, folding resistance, smoothness, tightness and shrinkage of the paper, but the tearing degree, opacity and air permeability will be reduced.
3. Beating also reduces the average fiber length to improve paper evenness.
4. Adding dry strength additives such as synthetic resin, modified starch or vegetable glue can increase fiber binding force and improve paper strength. The beating equipment includes beater, cylindrical refiner, conical refiner, disc refiner, etc.
